November 1998 : This month flower - Japanese silverleaf

Mieko Nagano: Oita City, Japan

Yellow Japanese silverleaf flower makes me feel autumn. The flower also offers a very nice season word in haiku composing. However, I did not like the flower when I was young, because it prefers to bloom in the shade, giving a gloomy look. I recall the flower blooming on a moist soil behind a large stone in the court of the house where I was born. Now as I grow old and finally, feel the flower something elegant as an autumnal flower.

A bunch of Japanese silverleaf is blooming at the foot of the oak-tree-fence between my house and the house next door. It holds large shining dark green leaves and tiny young ones. Lovely yellow flowers bravely claim the presence. This plant has been out of my attention for a long time when it has green leaves only, but the small yellow flowers look like to be suddenly spotlighted in the backyard.
