June 19, 2006 - July 11, 2006: Trip to Europe
June 25,
We took a train to Interlaken Ost.
We changed the train and headed to Grindelwald and then Grund.
From Grund, we took a gondla.
Four seated gondla took us to Mannlichen. Through the window, we enjoyed grand view of Eiger,Mench, and Jungfrau.
We started Alpen hiking from Mannlichen (2230) guided by a young female guide.
We walked on the snow.
Wonderful hiking course.
We walked down to Kleine Scheidegg (2061.)
Many lovely flowers welcomed us.
A Japanese novelist Jirou Nitta sleeps here.
After the lunch, we headed to Jungfraujoch and Sphinx Viewpoint.
The train passes through the great Eiger wall. Through the two "windows" on the way, we could see the glacier and down world. The train completed in 1896.
3456m Jungfraujoch station.
Unfortunately, the Sphinx Viewpoint was in the cold cloud. We could see nothing but white mist.
We soon got back into the building and visited Ice Palace.
In the building was the highest post box in Europe. The red post box was presented from Mt. Fuji of Japan post office.
We returned Interlaken. Alpen Edelweiss.
We took dinner at the town corner. The pizza was good.
Our room had a terrace.
