Japanese June 19, 2006 - July 11, 2006: Trip to Europe |
|
June 22:, Hi,good morning Baren mascot. |
|
Before-breakfast-walk. Beautiful flower fields were here and there, snow capped mountains. This was a very good place I ever saw.
Lej de San Murezzan (1768 MuM)
We started the hotel at ten. We took a train called "Glacier Express", the slowest express in the world, to go to Zermatt, the foot of Matterhorn. The express left St. Moritz station at 11:02.
The Landwasser Viaduct, one of the highlight of the route. The height of the bridge is 65 meter with the radius of 100 meter.
The lunch box was good as well. In the red box were
wine,bread,cheese,salami,apple,orange juice,and chocolate. We enjoyed a happy lunch. |
|
The landscape along the rail was really beautiful.
The express arrived at Andermatt at 15:35. A mighty porter unloaded heavy suitcases easily.
We then got on a big bus to drive up to Furkapass(2431.) The bus climbed up narrow winding road in the thick mist with frequent high honking.
Rhonegletscher at Furkapass. I saw glacier for the first time in my life.
The glacier boasts of its large scale covering 20.9 square kilometers and 9.1 kilometer in length. It was very cold.
Blue sky appeared at last. The bus went down to Brig valley and then went up again to Tasch station, the entrance to Zermatt in which only electric cars are allowed.
The shuttle train started Tasch at 19:30 for Zermatt.
The floor of the train was designed low so as to facilitate heavy suitcase handling.
The suitcases were transported to the hotel by an electric car.
We walked to the restaurant. The windows of the building on both side of the narrow road were decorated with beautiful flower pods. It was already eight in the evening but it was still so bright.
The dish was special local food of cheese and potato, called Klarett. I tried to drink special taste of Rivella, sweet non-alcoholic beverage.
Before ten, We arrived at the hotel Pollux at last. Good night.
