September 29, 2001: Drive to Wisconsin

This is a lovely small table in the kid room. I use it to make homepages with my note PC. The page is then sent to COARA, our provider, from Don's computer.

Today, we will drive up to Wisconsin state. Dan has kindly planned the trip. We will put baggage onto the car. Don's house is in a quiet nice residential area surrounded with big trees.

First, we came to a nearby public hall. Today is Saturday. Melody joins a community-sponsored kid exercise class. A big instructor, dads and moms make the kids play for about an hour.

We walked around outside until the play class was over. After that, we drove up I-94 to Wisconsin state. We visited a Jelly Beans factory to join a guided tour. American kids are very fond of Jelly Beans.

Jelly Beans is one of representative cookie of America. Jelly Belly has only two factories in the USA, here and in California, they said. We were presented logo-caps.

Visitors get on a tour car and pass through the huge warehouse filled with the product. There is a commemorative art "painted" with Jelly Beans to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

Molten sugar and other ingredients are poured onto those molds to make the Beans.

The molds are then put into the oven and flavors are added. It takes about one week to shape out the Jelly Beans. The method is similar to that of making "Confetto", a type of small candy made by crystallizing sugar around a poppy-seed core.

Large Jelly Beans models are hung down from the ceiling. There are about 40 kinds of flavors that make 60 kinds of Beans. They sell all type of the Beans in the souvenir shop.

We enjoyed the Jelly Beans tour by shopping and tasting.
