September 6, 1998: I visited OASIS Square-21

On the first Sunday of the new school term, I finally visited newly opened OASIS-21 plaza in a light rain. The building was constructed by the third sector of Oita prefecture in order to revitalize downtown Oita. It is a complex of a hotel, shopping tenants, a multi-purpose hall, broadcasting stations, a police office branch, and prefectural offices. The underground parking lot has already been in full and a long car line was at the entrance.

This is an over bridge between existing shopping arcade Takemachi Galilea and OASIS-21. A lot of people head to OASIS Square-21 through the bridge.

The entrance hall was crowded with families. I saw many children with parents were in a line. What was it?
They were waiting for the balloon distribution, I see.

On the other corner of the hall was a group
of cute girls with uniform like this.

who were laying march with brass. They were schoolgirls from nearby Niage-cho elementary school. But most visitors looked up another object, a waterfall from the ceiling that has just started to run.

The band is playing a rhythmical music. I wonder what the world will be in the next century when those band girls become adults. The name of the building is "OASIS Square-21."

Oh yes, what is the meaning of the nomination of "21?" Is it because the building is of 21 stories? So, I went up to the 21st floor. On the left is Mt. Takasaki and on the right must be Oita prefectural office building. I can enjoy a grand vista of Oita City from here.

This is a wedding hall which is open to the public today. What kind of couple will make a wedding ceremony here?

Passing through shopping stores decorated
with so much cerebration flowers.

I finally arrived at today's destination, an opening seminar with a lecture sponsored by NHK (The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation.) After the opening message by Mr. Murata, the chief of NHK Oita branch, we saw a film titled "Going streets" by the late Ryotaro Shiba.

Mr. Hotsuki Ozaki(a literary critic) presented a lecture on Ryotaro Shiba's historical and life view. I became feel to read Shiba's books.

I have had a good time today.
