December 20, 2000: Hong Kong travel starts
At 7:20, 2 hours before the departure, we came to Fukuoka International airport. Beautiful Christmas decorations are here and there. This time, we use Japan Travel Bureau (JTB.) We took a short rest at the lounge.
Japan Air Lines 757 took off on schedule at 9:20.

A Christmas-designed coffee cup is a small start of the Christmas atmosphere.

Lillian said "Be sure to visit Hong Kong in a beautiful Christmas season." We followed her recommendation this time.
Our plane stopped over at Okinawa Island for fueling and new passengers.

Army jets are parking in the airport Naha.

After taking off Naha, an in-flight meal was distributed. As we didn't take breakfast this morning, I enjoyed it with wine for me and beer for my husband. We toasted each other hoping a pleasant trip.
at 13:20 local time, we arrived Hong Kong. I screwed back my watch one hour.

A subway takes us to the immigration hall. There is no seat in the shuttle. Ads in the shuttle make me realize that I am in Hong Kong at last.
After passing the immigration smoothly, we were welcomed by a JTB local guide. Two-storied bus passing by was new for my eyes. JTB's mini-bus heads to Hong Kong Island On the left is Hong Kong's new airport opened in 1998.
The new airport is located on Lantau Island. The highway leads us to Kowloon and then Hong Kong Island.

Thin tall apartment buildings surprised me although they were just introductory scenes of the travel.
On the way to the hotel, the guide explained some comments we should follow. I exchanged yen bills to Hong Kong dollars.

City Garden Hotel is decorated beautifully with Christmas ornaments.
Our room is on the 18th floor of the 25-storied building. The furniture creates the atmosphere of China. Outside of the window are tall rising apartment buildings that occupy most part of the landscape. I found a bottle of mineral water on the table. A welcome message on the TV screen makes me delighted a little.

In front of the hotel is City Garden Park.
This evening, we were guided to a restaurant in Lei Yue Mun fishery market to enjoy seafood dishes.

Living fish are everywhere in the water tanks.
The cooker drained fish off from the fish-tank and soon cooked them for us. The dishes were tasty but the volume was too much for me. Included were, prawn, crab, abalone, shrimp, and sea bream.
The guide took our picture in front of a fish-tank. The fish-tank holds such beautiful lobsters.
The night already went on after the dinner. Famous signboards extended over the street illuminate the town brilliantly.
The night flourishes as time passes. We took a short look around "Female's market" crowded with people who enjoy the atmosphere in the narrow streets with stalls of various kinds of venders such as accessories, toys, and others. I was very glad to see such a vivid place and was satisfied with new surprises like the height of the building, abundance of commodity, and the color of the billboards. The first day in Hong Kong was ended like this.

I was at a loss a little because the climate was cooler than I had imagined.
