![]() On a beautiful autumnal day, we had the 25th field day of our Fujimigaoka community at Yokose grade school nearby. My son had entered the newly built elementary school as the third grade and attended five years. We have many pleasant memories on this school in a wonderful location with the background of Mt. Yufu and Mt. Tsurumi.

Yokose grade school welcomes me with beautiful flowerbeds of Marry Gold planted and raised by the school kids. A jaunty rhythm boosts up the pleasant atmosphere of the field day together with colorful bunting.

A beautiful gate reads "The 25th Fujimigaoka Community's Field Day." All the people on the ground relax themselves by radio gymnastic exercises. The community has 18 districts and Sakura Hill district, totaling its population about 9,000. It boasts of its size as the biggest but one in Oita City. |

All the games are competed with each district; some of them are very funny. This game is called "cooperation", featuring a pair of long sandals shared with five people. A complete coincidence of stepping is a must to march forward. They all shout "right, left, right, left" to adjust the timing. Haste makes waste. |

A couple holds a large soft ball between their cheeks and run to the goal, don't use hands! "We love each other" game will be successful only when a couple actually loves the partner. I was troubled with the danger of dropping the ball, because my counterpart was my husband. |

![]() Along the field truck are the tents of each district. One of lovely boy cheers for our district, No.2, with a district's flag. Our cheer group enjoyed chatting, laughing, and clapping hands for the players.

At the lunchtime, we got a lunch box distributed from our district. This is a good chance to become familiar with the neighbors who seldom exchange each other in busy days. |
![]() I looked around the field in the lunchtime. There are many championship flags and trophies in the administration tent. So many presents and prizes are piled up as well. Many kinds of tools to be used in the games are everywhere. Thank you very much, all of the staff.

The afternoon game started from an attraction, Bingo Game. Each district chief holds a Bingo sheet to mark the number announced from the administration tent. Six districts won the game before our No. 2 district got the point. The game was over. |
![]() "Candy pick-up" game by kids got a big laughing of the spectators. Kids have to pick a candy from the starch-filled shallow pan, not with hands but with their mouths. Their faces turn white with starch powder.
![]() A tug of war is one of the main games of the day. Cheer group kids shout loudly on the side. Our district won four plays. I was very delighted.

The last program was the final relay race competed with districts that passed preliminary in the morning. Now, they were real sprinters. I was impressed to watch their strong dash. The winner of the 25th field day was No. 11 district. Our No.2 district was the 11th out of 19 districts. The result was not satisfactory, but we fully enjoyed without any accidents. In the evening we had a small outdoor party in the nearby kindergarten. |
