July 26th: The last day of the YMF

The final day of the 24th Yufuin Music Festival has arrived. An exceptional finale concert is to be performed by all the chamber players. Rehearsals already have begun on the stage. Fortunately, even at this hectic time, I enjoy an unexpected pause in the lobby. Autumnal flowers are arranged anew in a vase, ready for the tea party in the late afternoon.
The final performance has started. In the lobby, we are preparing frantically for the tea party which will provide a long intermission between halves of the afternoon concert. Many luxurious dishes offering "A Taste of Yufuin" have been provided by the town's food shops which support the Festival.
During the intermission, hand-made juice of aromatic citron mixed with honey, another Japanese juice drink called Shiso, and coffee are ready to serve. Guests enjoy them free. Volunteers Taro Nakaya and Misako Fuchino are working busily.
Goods are arranged on shopping tables, ready for sale. From the left are Matsuno, Hino, Hiroko, and Gondo, with Shigematsu in the background.
At 3 p.m., about 250 guests are relaxing for tea time in the lobby. Despite the heat and humidity, the hard-working staff are pleased to serve them. It is truly delightful to see the guests enjoy the tea time. After the intermission, they will enjoy still more recitals.
Finally, the 24th YMF is over! I pray that all guests feel satisfaction on their way home. After the staff cleans and restores the entire Yufuin Community Hall, we take a break. As usual, Jim records the scene with his excellent video camera. He is a video maniac, indeed, and he aims to create a documentary film of this YMF for all to enjoy.
The stage has been restored to its original purpose serving the "Yufuin Community Hall." Thanks to all the staff for their conscientious efforts toward a thorough cleanup.
