| Japanese December 5, 2005: Unexpected snowfall | |
| | Eerie clouds appeared on central Oita before seven in the morning. |
| I took a bus to Kumamoto City to attend a meeting. I soon fell into a doze. When I got up after a while, I was surprised to find a snow covered landscape. | |
| | In addition, snow blew laterally. The weather forecast last night said that we would have a heavy snow storm, but it was far beyond my anticipation. |
| Oita cedars trees were lust like Christmas trees. | |
| | Passing Taketa city, snow became deeper. The houses near Oita-Kumamoto border were covered with thick snow. |
| I make it a rule to visit Kumamoto by car, but I was really lucky to change my plan and got a bus. I wouldn't be able to drive in such weather. | |
| | But the snow quickly disappeared when the bus entered Ohtsu town and closed to Kumamoto airport. The rice paddies were still in green. I found that only a short distance divide the landscape. |
| The ginkgoes in the square of Kumamoto Prefectural Office were almost became bare. Some sweepers were cleaning the beautiful golden leaves endlessly. | |
| | On my way back to Oita, I again saw snow in Aso volcanic basin. |
| The bus arrived at Oita in illumination.Oita Fantasy 2005 has just started in the central streets. | |
| | As the shopping arcade was still bright, the
illumination looked somewhat dim, but I felt the arrival of winter by
seeing the illumination event. Oita
Fantasy. The Fantasy warmed me up a little. |
