2001 USA-Germany Travel Record

October 21, 2001: Frankfurt (2)

We will be back to Washington DC early tomorrow morning. This means today is the last day in Germany. We took late breakfast in the hotel. The mist shrouds high buildings around the hotel.

We got on a U-bahn to visit the Alte Opera Haus, a grand building. I hope to enjoy an opera in such a luxurious Haus.

We consult with a guidebook and came up to Hauptwache Platz. Old prison was turned to a restaurant.

We then walked down to Frankfurt Kleinmarkt Halle. Unfortunately, the Halle is closed on Sunday. In front of the Halle, there are sculptures of Bull and Bear, representing good and bad market.

Next stop was Goethehaus, one of my main destinations in Frankfurt. Goethe was born here in 1749 between an Office lawyer and Mayor's daughter. Goethe grew up here until he left to Weimar at the age of 26. I could see old rooms in which he wrote many great works. The building itself was completely destroyed by WW2 bombing, but some of the furniture were safe because they had been evacuated. Goethe Museum is next door of Goethehaus.

We again came to Mein River. Many people enjoy walking and jogging.

Spars soaring high behind the colored forest make me realize that I am now in Europe actually.

We took dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant and went bed earlier.
