May 20: The Opening ceremony of APU, by Mie
Today, I visited the opening ceremony festival of APU (Asia Pacific University) to be held in Beppu Park.
I put a yellow flower hair ornament on my chest instead of a brooch. I carried a small bouquet of flowers from my garden for Sayuri.
APU opened in Beppu this April. There are many panels illustrating the 100-year history of Ritsumeikan University, the mother of APU.

Beppu Park is filled with beautiful flowers. In the flowerbed, poppy is in its full bloom. A TV car is on standby.
幼Many kindergarten children watch the performance by APU students.
Flea markets display a lot of items.

A big barbecue of a whole leg of a cow. The leg may serve so many people. I hear an old song from the wood over there. A group of music band marches to distribute leaflets. I got a map of the festival site.

I saw some of my close friends such as Mr. Miyake (left) who helps foreign students in Beppu is busy in taking pictures and Mr.Yuuki and Mr. Fujio at an Asian food stand who volunteer in soaking.

Foreign students from more than 50 countries learn here in APU. They run a food stall wearing national costumes.

The performances start at 11 on the stage on the lawn. Hula Dance team will play the second in order. The pretty high school dancers appeared wearing wonderful costumes.
The emcees are a lady from Zimbabwe and a male student of Japan.
The first performance was Shounai Kagura Dance. The dancer jumped down from the stage and rages around the spectators. Applause for the energetic performance in the heat rang out from the audience.
I saw Ms. Hara of APU. She looked at me and said you should put your flower on the hair.

Now, our Hula Dance started. The dancers flow down their beautiful hair on the back. The frills of the costume make a wonderful pattern when the dancers spin quickly.
Ms. Hara (left), Mrs. Sayuri (center) and I enjoyed the performance at the front row of the spectators. The Hula was so great and I gave them a standing ovation.

A local Hula dance team performs, and our Hula Dancers sing Blue Hawaii in the back on the background music from a cassette player.
They finished their dance amidst a storm of applause. Thank you very much all of you. We said Aloha many times. They will soon leave here for the next destination Fukuyama.
See you again in Maui Island next time, Mr. and Mrs. Beppu from Hawaii.

Professor Unetani (left) and the Ohigashis (center) will attend the formal ceremony starting from now. See you again in Maui next time without fail, ALOHA!

The ceremony will be held here at B-con plaza. The future of the young student from many countries worldwide will open ahead brilliantly like those beautiful flowers.
