One of the pleasures in autumn is to see the beautiful color of leaves in the hills and in the precincts of shrines or temples. Since old days, Japanese have appreciated the transition of the seasons by perceiving modestly the existence of God in nature.

As years have passed by, this perception has turned to a sense of pleasure of ordinary people. The leaves of the trees start to change color from the northern high lands, at the tops of mountains. The greater the temperature difference between day and night, the brighter the colour of the leaves.

In my neighborhood, I can enjoy the color change of maple trees in the garden of a small shrine, or in the precinct of an old temple. Yellow and red leaves looking through the back light of the autumn sunshine play a beautiful concerto of nature.
