June 7: The preparation for 25th Yufuin Music Festival
by Mie
Yufuin Music Festival (YMF) will celebrate its 25th anniversary this summer. There are many music festivals in Japan, and our YMF is well known for its long history and independence from any administrative organs.

As we will have the first steering committee in the evening, I headed to Yufuin together with my husband. The rainy season was already started here in Oita area. The white lily in my garden is blooming in the rain.
A 36 kilometer drive takes us from home to Yufuin. Despite my home has been shrouded in a drizzly rain, the red sky at sundown promises us a fine day when we approached Yufuin.
We arrived at Kotokotoya tea room in Yufuin at 7:30 p.m. Mt. Yufu is soaring high showing its elegant slopes distinctly in the sunset.. Watching fireflies is a pastime that gives poetic charm to early summer here in Yufuin, but as we have had a rain this evening, we may not expect it this time.
Here in Kotokotoya, the steering committee members are discussing how to manage the festival on the background music of Gregorian Chant. We talked about the kick-off meeting and management during the festival days. I was assigned as usual to preside all the works at the music hall lobby. From left: Mrs. and Mr. Kato, Mrs. Misako Fuchino of Kotokotoya, Mr. Sato in charge of accounting, Mr. Io of Yufuin sightseeing office, and me in pink shirt. (My husband Ken took the picture.)
We talked our pleasant dream of YMF in future over the rich flavor of coffee specially brewed tonight. The theme color of the 25th YMF is yellow as is seen like this program post card. Let's come and join us YMF from July 29 through August 1 this summer.
