March 26: Special COARA night with the gusts from Malaysia
by Mie
Today, we have an unusual COARA Night inviting the guests from Malaysia on the 20th floor of Daiichi Hotel in Oasis Tower. We can look down downtown Oita sinking under the spring drizzling with blurred neon signs. The guests from Malaysia, who made informative presentations yesterday, said they visited Beppu city and enjoyed bathing in hot spring. All of them look like refreshed tonight. From left: the Chins, Mr. Narayanan Kanan, Mr. Cheah Kah Lip, Mr. Alan Fung, and the interpreter.
Mr. Takata of JETRO, who took had arranged this time exchange, makes a greet flanked by Mr. Ono, general secretariat of COARA, Miss Tomonari, toady's emcee, and Mr. Takemoto.
So many COARA members join the party: I am sorry I can not identify all the names of the attendants. From left: a student of Oita university from Malaysia, Aizu from Malaysia, Seki, Tada; Kawashima, Shimizu from Kobe city, a new face Minami, Gotoh, another new face, Miss Korenaga of COARA, and Abe from Beppu.

From left: Yoshino, my husband Ken in red sweater, and Tsuchiya of JETRO who worked hard for preparation. (Right picture) Mr. "naba@fat.coara.or.jp" from Kagachi town claps his hands. What "naba" means? Well, it is a name of mushroom, a special product of Oita. He also runs a wonderful tea room. I hope to visit his town some day.

COARA members of today give presents to the Malaysian guests: special wooden sandal made in Ms. Uratsuka's factory. She lives in Hita city and an active COARA member as well. I hope the guests will use them in home.

Let's toast in commemoration of the exchange between Malaysians and COARA members! Today is Mr. Ono's birthday as well, happy birthday to you! I hope he will be active in business and in COARA.

(Left) Mr. Alan Fung is a nice guy smiling pleasantly. (Right) Mr. Ono is happy to open a present from the Chins. It is a wonderful Pewter memo holder, a special oroduct of Malaysia. The surface of the Pewter is beautifully decorated with hand-caeved flowers. The weight of the Pewter is nice to hand as well. I was also presented the same one, and put it in front of my PC. Thank you the Chins. Click each picture for better viewing.
In a COARA Night, all attendants make one-minute-speech. This time, some did it in English, some needed the help of the Interpreter. We have had an unusual pleasant Night this time.

It is hard to say good-bye to the guests. Mr. Narayanan Kanan, leftmost, made the final greeting, saying he hoped to start the exchange in business and in human relation between Malaysia and Oita from now on. Yes, Kanan, you can say that again. See you again in Malaysia next time, have a nice return trip!
