October 23, 2001: Washington DC in autumnal color
We have just returned "home" in Washington DC. Yes, it is strange to call the apartment as "home", but we can fully relax in there. As we haven't got tired in the travel to Germany, we decided to go further today.
The destination is Tysons Corner I visited before in 1998. We headed there by using subway and bus. The scenery of Washington made my eyes happy.
As the bus system requested us to change at a relay point which made us nervous a little.
I finally arrived Tysons, which has been alive in my memory. All the shops are in Christmas colors. I was delighted.
The shopping center is huge enough to make my foot tired soon. We were entirely exhausted and took Chinese lunch in the arcade.
On our way back home, we got on a bus that took us directly to a nearby town. The bus passed through beautiful residential area and shopping downtown, and finally arrived the terminal after about an hour.
We got on the subway from Rosslyn. The escalator goes deep under the level below Potomac River, it was so steep and long, making acrophobias hesitate to get on it. We got off at the next stop, Foggy Bottom.
We got up to the street near the apartment. There is a historical preserve surrounded with beautiful autumnal color of maple trees.
As we didn't get any food at Tysons, we walked out to a supermarket in Watergate. As the weather was so beautiful, we dropped in a beautiful park on Potomac River. Many students and kids enjoy boating there. The large white building is Kennedy Center.
Haiku: "Boatmen's voices came into one under an Indian summer day."
Some enjoy painting pictures, some ride on bike, some enjoy simple walking. This is a nice restaurant in Georgetown Waterfront. We got a table in there and relaxed.
The landscape was so wonderful that I wanted to sit there as long as I could. TV camera crew showed up to take pictures of the relaxing people on the front. Such an unusual statue stands on a corner in the building complex. I saw on TV the very background of today's Waterfront. I was delighted very much. I enjoyed fully one clear autumn day in Washington.
